Last night marked a momentous event in the life of my kitty (Ghost) and one of the boys’ dogs (Rawly)…they MET. We had our first Therapy Dog visit last night and then came back to my place afterwards as I suggested it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to introduce the two of them seeing as they will have to co-habitate at some point in the near future. Since I was of the understanding that Ghost ran away from his first home due to the fact that they got a dog, I wasn’t sure how he was going to react to seeing Rawly walk through the door. I did have a feeling he would run and hide under the bed and not be seen for the rest of the evening, but au contraire! Nothing of the sort. He came sleepily out of the bedroom and was in mid stretch when he realized it wasn’t just the boy and I, but the boy and I plus a DOG! He immediately puffed his fur out and his tail expanded to twice its normal size, and I’m thinking, oh, might have a bit of a scrap on our hands here.
I told the boy to bring the dog into the living room and Ghost would just have to deal, which he did. He almost seemed protective of me, it was kind of funny, because he followed us, but made sure he kept a safe distance, not taking his eyes off the dog the whole time. He even got so brave as to come right over to Rawly and they touched noses, after which Rawly quickly submitted as if to say, OK you can be the boss of me, I put up no fight, I’m totally fine with that. It was rather funny to watch the two of them and I am glad that the first meeting went ok, gives me a smidgen of hope they might actually be able to live together without constant fighting!
