In continuance of my rudeness post from yesterday…
So, after the near collision with the shopping cart I went back to looking at seeds, moving from the flower side to the veggie side as I asked the boy if we needed to get anymore seeds for the garden. As I am in the midst of asking him his thoughts on getting some more carrots (a riveting conversation let me tell you) when I get interrupted, cut off, full stopped, by some lady asking me if I’ve had a garden before and what type of seeds should she buy? In spite of her rudely interrupting me, I obliged and answered her question, yes, I’ve had a garden before and the seeds you have seem fine to me, and was going to continue my discussion with the boy. BUT, before I could get a word out, she was pouncing again asking me what kind of peas she should buy? I don’t freakin’ know, a pea is a pea is a pea, plant them, water them, they will grow! Then she’s like, what about these ones? What about this? What else should I plant? Should I plant my peppers from seed? What about cucumbers, will those grow? I offered the best advice I could, told her peppers and cucumbers would probably produce better if she bought plants already started and offered her my vast knowledge in answering her other 50 questions and was very nice about it all. And what does she do? Turns to the guy she is with and says, ok, lets go to the greenhouse and get some pepper and cucumber plants and…she was gone. Turned and walked away, not a thank you, a see ya later, a sorry to bother you..NADA..just turns and WALKS AWAY!! I stood in shock, watching her walk away and was like, “um, you’re welcome!!”. HOW RUDE!! She monopolizes my time, rudely at that, bombards me with all these questions, hardly waits to hear my answers to them, then, when she gets what she wants, just fricken leaves? What the hell!! Geez, what is with people!!!
On the weekend the boy and I were once again doing backyard and garden related things. We got the majority of our garden planted last weekend and the backyard makeover pretty much completed, but there were still a couple things we were seeking. While I was looking at some flower seeds for the backyard I was nearly rearended by a crotchety old man with his shopping cart. The seeds were in a ‘block’, whereby you could access four sides of varying types of seeds, but it wasn’t located in the most convenient of areas which was at the end of an aisle and in a high traffic area, so people were always wanting by. Anyways, I’m looking at the flower seeds, rather intent on my mission when I sense someone coming at me, and notice out of the corner of my eye someone wanting to ’squeeze’ by with their cart. Knowing full well that I was standing right there and there was not room for me and the cart, I figured this person would take a couple of steps backwards and go around the other way where there was more room. The boy had gone off to get a new propane tank and was just coming back to where I was witnessing this whole thing. You see, I had ZERO intention of moving as I knew there was an alternative way, but when I noticed the person had come to a full stop with their cart mere inches from my leg, I looked up and noticed it was an elderly gentleman, I sighed, he glared, not a word like, oh, I dunno, ‘excuse me’, escaping from his lips. He gave me the dirtiest look, then backed up his cart a couple feet and WAITED for me to move. Still tempted not to, but in lieu of him being older, I decided I would move, so I stepped forward and out of the way so he could get by, whilst the boy stood there dumbfounded that I actually moved, having witnessed it all. What did the old guy do? Gave me a ‘huff’ and another glare as he wheeled his cart right on by with not a word of thanks or anything near it. I just stood there mouth open, mildly dumbfounded at how fricken rude the guy was, and said, you’re welcome! Which the boy added to with his own, rather loud, you’re welcome, I can’t believe how RUDE some people are. The guy didn’t even turn around! The boy looks at me and was like, can you believe that? I said no, trust me, I seriously considered not moving, but only did so due to him being older. The boy was like, ya, I was surprised you moved, but I guess that makes sense, but if he wasn’t older I’d be having words with him right now (the boy is cute when he’s all ‘manly man’ like that, lol, he doesn’t like anyone being rude (or anything negative whatsover) to me). I said, ya, but if I’d known how rude he was going to be about it, I would have stayed put.
I know, it seems like a minor thing, but I was raised with MANNERS, something that seems to be greatly lacking in today’s day and age. What does it take to say ‘excuse me’ and when someone goes out of their way to move for you a little ‘thank you’ goes a long way. I just get so tired of it and seem to encounter this kind of thing whenever we venture out. It’s just plain RUDE!!
Part two tomorrow…
