A break from Monday…
Recently the boy and I have been looking for a new faucet for our bathroom and I can’t help but be boggled by how many kitchen faucets there are on the market these days. I guess it’s not something I’ve generally thought about, having rented until I moved in with the boy, but I am awestruck as I stand and stare at a wall full of faucets. Each of course having their own sort of ‘uniqueness’ making them better than the other one right next to it. Not only is there an abundance of availability there is quite the range in price as well, who knew how expensive it can be to merely get water out of a tap, not I, that’s for sure. I like our faucet and hope we don’t have to replace it anytime soon as I would have a heck of a time trying to make that buying decision.
Having been away recently, I would have felt more at ease had I had alarm system monitoring in place. I always get a minor sense of trepidation upon pulling into the driveway hoping that all is as it was left and no one broke into our place while we were away. I am even more apprehensive after having someone break into my house while I was away at Christmas time a few years ago. I will never forget getting the phone call from a roommate who had returned home to find the house had been trashed. I returned the next day to find my room had been turned inside out basically, nothing can quite describe the sick feeling of violation you get in the pit of your stomach when something like that happens to you. I did not enjoy being in that house for quite a while after that as I never felt quite as safe as I had before. I guess you are never completely safe, but taking as many precautions as possible can go a long way towards peace of mind.
I am the type of person who goes through phases of clumsiness/stupid accidents. Sometimes I can go weeks without cutting myself doing something stupid or dropping ten things a day, other times I drop everything I get my hands on and scare the boy every time I touch something sharp for fear I may lob off a finger. I’m the type of person who needs safety cutters. These thing were made just for me as there is virtually no way you could decapitate yourself just by slicing a piece of cardboard, and trust me, I’ve come close. I scare myself any time I get near a sharp object other than a kitchen knife (I’m usually pretty good with those), give me a utility knife and you better have the band-aid’s nearby because odds are I will have a finger or thumb in the wrong spot and slice right into it.
