Furniture time again

As I peer with disdain around my living room I picture in my head how I would change things if I could.  One thing that I immediately start ‘looking at’ in my mind are tv stands.  I have not ever really much liked the one we have.  That said, I must give it points for functionality, as it does hold all the things we require it to.  The biggest annoyance it causes me is in the dusting department.  You see, it is black, and we all should know that black is evil when it comes to showing dust.  I take the time to dust every last inch of the thing, turn around twice and it looks like I never touched it.  Add two animals into the picture, one being a white haired cat who seems to think he must explore what’s behind the tv stand, by jumping onto and over it, on a somewhat regular basis and my head gets close to exploding.  The boy and I searched high and low last year to find a replacement, even brought a couple home, but nothing seemed quite right.  Perhaps it’s time to try again…

Something new

So we tried something new last night for dinner.  We finally conquered the world of couscous.  This mysterious little wheat (not totally sure how you would classify it) has been taunting us for a while now and we finally bought some when we went grocery shopping last weekend.  I am one who gets bored of the same things/options so I was all too happy to see if I could broaden my repertoire of foods/sides.  I am happy to say we both quite liked the miniature little bits of couscous and it will definitely be something we put into our ‘rotation’ of foods.  Now I can actually look at the different recipes I’ve seen for couscous and have a better idea of whether or not I may like them.

Bookworm

I used to always have my nose in a book when I was growing up.  My brother used to bug the heck out of me for it and call me a bookworm or say I was gonna need glasses because I read so much.  In reality, he couldn’t quite figure out how I could just sit there and read a book for hours on end when he could hardly sit still for 5 minutes without feeling like he had to be doing something (and he didn’t consider reading doing anything).  I am quite saddened that as I entered college and textbooks took over my life, I lost my bookworm abilities, and I have not been able to get them back even though it’s been years since I touched a textbook.  With things like Amazon books at my fingertips, it really couldn’t be any easier to get any book I want to inspire myself back into the lost art of reading.  I must admit to browsing the site a few times lately, but have yet to make the ‘buy’ decision just yet.  Hopefully I can find something soon as reading is good for the mind and always provided a nice escape, something I feel I could really use right now.

At home

This will be the first weekend in a month that the boy and I will be at home, together and not traveling to/from a destination or returning from a destination.  Our luggage has gotten quite the workout over these past few weeks.  The suitcase (or suitcases) had become a permanent fixture in our bedroom and never quite got put back in the closet as we never seemed to be home long enough.  We are hoping that we can be home for a little bit now as not all of the trips we took were ones we had planned or for the most happy of circumstances.  The end of 2008 and beginning of 2009 have been filled with ’surprises’ and none of them have been of the good variety.  My wish is that we are getting the bad out of the year early on and things can only go up from here.
