Outdoor pursuits

Once again, this time of year brings something to the ‘front’ of my mind.  That something is outdoor furniture.  I lost count of just how many patio sets the boy and I looked at last year, and yet, here we are at square one once again as we bought not a single piece of outdoor furniture last year.  We just could not find exactly what we were looking for and therefore we bought nothing.  We put a lot of work into making changes in our back yard to create more space for an outdoor table and such, unfortunately we were not able to fill that space.  I find myself once again drooling over catalogs from home improvement and department stores at all the patio sets and have my fingers crossed that this will be the year we actually find what we are looking for.

Something to add

I’d never heard of it before, but recently I stumbled upon Kettlebell.  Do you know what that is?  It’s fitness related, which seems to be a recurring theme on this blog.  It must be the time of year or something, where I start to think about all the things I’d like to do and buy.  On the ‘buy’ list, as always, are clothes, as every year at this time I feel like I have nothing to wear as I have to slowly let the long sleeves slink to the back of the closet and start looking at how little I have in regards to more weather appropriate clothing.  Of course, I do have things to wear, I just have to start digging them out of storage and seeing what will do another season and what should be passed on to someone who needs it more than I do.  I try not to get too down about my (I feel) lack of things to wear, and the best way to do that is to get active, so I must go do that.

Startling

I just found out something that made my arteries cringe.  I don’t know about you, but I have certain things I get at certain restaurants, I’m such a creature of habit, it’s a little pathetic at times.  But, I figure if I’m spending money on my meal at a restaurant, I want to make sure it’s something I’m going to like, so I tend to stay with the ‘tried and true’, unless I’m feeling extra adventurous.  I was reading today about some of the worst foods at fast food restaurants and was rather disheartened to find one of my favourite things on the list.  Now, for the artery cringing part, this particular item (or meal I should say) contains 75 grams of fat and 3,690 mg of sodium!!!  The sodium equivalent of ELEVEN large McD’s fries, and we all know how salty those can be.

So, um ya, I think it’s safe to say I will not be enoying that particular meal anytime soon.  I often wondered just how bad it was for me, now that I know it makes me feel even better that the boy and I have been very strict about our eating out lately, this will only help us stick to it even more!!

I like a deal

I have never tried supplements, actually, scratch that because I guess I technically do take different vitamins and those could be considered supplements.  I should technically say I’ve never tried nutritional supplements.  It’s not something that’s every really crossed my mind, that said, if I could get discount supplements I’m sure I would give them a try as I love me a deal.  If I can get something on sale, I will.  If I can use a coupon for something I will, there’s just something about getting a deal that makes me feel like I’m doing all I can to save some dollars on things I have no choice but to by, as in, foodstuffs.  The boy and I have been trying not to eat out as much, not like we did too much to being with, but it was at least once a week, if not more and seemed to be becoming more of a habit than a necessity/break from cooking.  We have gone nearly two weeks without a meal out and plan to continue eating at home, but also plan on rewarding ourselves on payday because we both know if we don’t have some sort of reward/goal, it will never work.  But, hey, if we can limit ourselves to eating out once or twice a month, we are doing much better than most.  I guess it doesn’t hurt that I enjoy cooking and am loving making stuff out of my newest cookbook, maybe the best cookbook I’ve bought to date.
